1990: BitCtrl management: Andreas Müller and Dr. Gunter Geigemüller

1990

September 1990. The reunification of the two German states is sealed. The door to the future stands wide open, almost anything seems possible now. A dedicated team of computer scientists and engineers led by Andreas Müller and Gunter Geigemüller – emerging from industry and the Technical University of Leipzig – seizes the historic opportunity and founds a company: The nucleus of today's BitCtrl Systems GmbH, then still under the founding name SW Datentechnik Leipzig GmbH. Additional motivated employees later complement the founding team.

2002: first infotainment customer - Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe with LISA software

Infotainment

A milestone follows in 1999 with the first infotainment project. Extensive and creative developments in the field of information systems for transport networks subsequently lead to co-ownership of a European Patent in 2010, together with Siemens AG and Haru-Reisen OHG. Digital display systems in public transport have since become a central business area. Today, among others, around 5000 buses in New York City are equipped with infotainment made by bitcontrol® – a registered trademark of BitCtrl Systems GmbH.

2005: BitCtrl at the QNX Conference in Ottawa, Canada

2003

Another significant step: In 2003, BitCtrl becomes the official QNX distributor for German-speaking countries and has since been a reliable partner in this market segment. Based on QNX, the automation platform FlexCtrl was developed, which today successfully controls industrial processes in many areas. FlexCtrl stands for continuity and reliability and is used, among others, in Gasunie's gas distribution stations in the Netherlands, in Georg Fischer Casting Solutions foundries, and in integrated video monitoring at the Magdeburg waterway junction. For Siemens Energy, BitCtrl developed the next generation software for controlling high-voltage circuit breakers based on FlexCtrl in 2024.

2008: Albrecht Uhlmann (Authorized Officer of BitCtrl) during the commissioning of the TCS Rügen Bridge control system

Traffic Telematics

During the 2000s, traffic telematics increasingly becomes a supporting business area. BitCtrl designs essential components of a unified traffic control center software for traffic management systems and develops numerous additional projects and products based on it.

2013

Fast forward to 2013: Ruslan Hrushchak, a young scientist at the Institute of Computer Science at the University of Leipzig, together with a companion, founds the innovative start-up appPlant GmbH. The young company impresses with software solutions for alerting and data analysis and soon becomes a supplier to the BMW Group. Their app Maintcall is used in BMW's Leipzig and Oxford plants. In the following years, appPlant continuously expands its portfolio, focusing on mobile applications and research.

2022

In 2022, shortly before appPlant GmbH's 10th anniversary, BitCtrl and appPlant merge into a joint company, combining their competencies and innovative power. Ruslan Hrushchak joins the management. The new BitCtrl Systems GmbH is born.
