A73 Erlangen hard shoulder opening

The temporary hard shoulder opening is used to open the hard shoulder between the junction Baiersdorf-Nord and Erlangen-Nord in travel direction Nürnberg depending on the traffic - mostly in the morning rush hour. So the capability of the highway will be increased.

The whole highway is equipped with a road-control installation to harmonise the all the traffic, avoid accidents and secure the hard shoulder use.

More than 54 fixed cameras are installed along the hard shoulder section to monitor the emergency lane. The video cameras observe the traffic, especially the emergency lane, and allow its opening for temporary use.

Decentralized evaluation units inside the route stations support the user with situation-based alerts on the user interface of the video center (VZ) and the connected control sub-center (UZ).

The video management system of the video center allows the allocation and video storage of the triggered alarms inclusive lead time before the triggered event and permanent storage of the traffic situation in a 24 hour ring buffer.
